Vincent Gan
Assistant Professor
National University of Singapore
The Robotics and Artificial Intelligence System for Built Environment (rais4be) Lab is overseen by Dr Vincent Gan. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the College of Design and Engineering at the National University of Singapore and he serves as Deputy Directors of the Centre for Digital Building Technology and the Centre for Project and Facilities Management. He was previously a Research Assistant Professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Visiting Lecturer at Imperial College London, Guest Lecturer at University College London, Visiting Scholar at Purdue University. Dr Gan completed his MSc and PhD in Civil Engineering under the supervision of Chair Professor Irene Lo (Academician of European Academy of Sciences and Arts) and Professor Jack Cheng (Assoc Head of CEE, HKUST).
Dr Gan’s research focuses on advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM) technologies by integrating robotics with LiDAR and image-based sensing to enable robust, high-precision reality capture and automated 3D modelling of buildings and infrastructures. He also works in the field of computational design, with a focus on linking the BIM and AI with building structural optimisation. Recognised among the Top 2% Scientists Worldwide by Stanford University, Dr Gan has made a profound impact through his research, leading eight major research grants totalling S$2.2M and publishing 70 high-quality, influential works. He has received several international awards, including Structural Excellence Award by HKIE, the OpenBIM/OpenGIS Grand Award by buildingSmart (HK). Dr Gan is dedicated to developing innovative pedagogy for teaching digital building technologies and has been recognised with College Teaching Excellence Award at NUS.
